275 @ Jackson, TN and Holly Springs, MS
« on: January 25, 2010, 09:13:50 AM »
Dunno if you guys have seen the news on Yellow Bullet or MidSouthRacer.com, but Jackson is getting revamped for 2010 with plans of a monthly 275 class (and possibly True 10.5).

Also Holly Springs already has monthly 275 races on their schedule this year.

Both tracks are roughly 5 hours from me, so 6 for you city folk. But I think I may make it down that way for an event at each track this year.

Holly Springs Rules are:
275 Drag Radial
NOS cars:
Big Block Conventional heads     2 stages
Big Block NON conv heads         1 stage
All Small Blocks                         2 stages
SUPERCHARGED cars
F1-R OK
TURBOCHARGED cars
88 mm max (no reducers)

Jackson's Proposed Rules are:
Small block conv head 2900lbs
Small block non conv head 3000lbs
Big block conv head 3100lbs
Big block non conv head 3200lbs

Power adders
Max 2 nitrous systems
Max 88 mil turbo (no twins)
Max F2 prorcharger or 871 blower
One power adder

Any suspension type
No full wheel tubes (tube or back-half)
No wheelie bars

Car count shouldn't be an issue. :1mao:

Eagerly awaiting the Shitter Report Stanley.

I have never been to either track but from seeing these pics I'd say Jackson should be pretty nice this year.

Also heard the Holly is now NHRA Sanctioned, so I figure it can't be that bad.

looks nice that track was always fun to run at in the 2000s at the limited street stuff. It will take a while for the surface to come around especialy with the direction of the broom marks.

First all I would like to thank David Glidewell for takin the time to talk to me. He's definetly got stuff goin in the right direction! It will definetly be one of the best facilities around this year. And they way he was swingin that shovel and broom today,ya might be careful on the negative comments!  I was startin to sweat and my back started hurting just watching!

First off,the concrete. He really researched the right mix and and its laser level sloping to the outsides. Plenty thick enough and enough rebar in it I'm sure it'll never crack!

The transition from concrete to asphalt is smooth as glass!

Then he's added new guard rails round the burnout box and at the big end.

Then he's shoved the dirt back to make more room for larger haulers.

Then hey! What happened to the old bathroom? Oh it's over here!

And Mitch for all you do,this shitter will be for you!

And if anyone wants to start their own track,I know where there is a good start CHEAP!

Then he's adding a 30 foot culvert at the slip booth to avoid back ups on the return and we he has scales for needed races.

Then just a few other pics.

In conclusion,SEE YALL THERE!

Its good to see tracks updating/upgrading.  Hopefully others will follow in the footsteps.  Seems all the southern tracks care about and listen to the racers.

yeah, concrete will crack no matter what.  i know in residential homes (basements and garages) they make a weak point for it to control a crack.  it's designed to crack where they want so it won't crack in places they don't want.  pics look good.  that was the first track we broke the mustang out when we first got it out.  all we remember is the people were very hospitaple, the track and bathroom was a shit hole.  big improvement there!  good to see upgrades!

More.

Quote from: Scotts87LX
The other half of the new bathroom slab was poured today.

The the new concrete over the new culvert before the time shack.

And here's few shots of the new concrete, up close and personal. David said it's the same spec concrete that new bridges are built with. My buddy Dean said it is 4500lb concrete but I have no idea what that means. David told us today that it has no river rock in it, meaning there are no slick finish (washed) rocks in it that can find their way to the surface and create traction problems.

And here's a SUPER close up (like magnifying glass close).

Looking better every day. Weather permitting, David said TNT on Friday night and Saturday, regular bracket racing program on Sunday. They will be dragging rubber on the track starting Wed all the way up to run time Friday night, so it won't be bare concrete this weekend. However, David did say that it will take a couple of weekends to get enough rubber on it for it to be "on kill".

Glidewell has done a fantastic job with Jackson in the past few weeks. It's mighty impressive considering what the place looked like in the 1970s.

By the way, Holly Springs is now NHRA under George Howard but be advised the track is still twenty-eight (28) feet short. However, that's not as short as it used to be!

Dyersburg has a new owner, as well, and they spent last weekend cleaning the place up down there, too.
